True Counter-Strike Sequel, Tactical Intervention Now in Beta!

Abseiling + Crashing through glass FTW

Counter-Strike and tactical gaming fans rejoice! There’s a new tactical FPS in town and it’s brought to you once again by Minh Le, creator of the original Counter-Strike. The game is currently entering a closed beta which you can sign up for at the tactical-intervention website. The closed beta begins on May 28th, so go sign up now!

The game offers a similar format to what we’ve come to love from Counter-Strike: Counter-Terrorists vs. Terrorists. Beyond the graphical update and what was offered in Counter-Strike: Source, the face lift includes actual special forces units, weaponry, and real world battlefield locations. Intelligent AI for returning NPCs such as hostages as well as dogs are also promised, so hopefully they won’t just do their best statues impressions until you click them. The final feature you will either love or hate is the addition of vehicles into the mix. Generally vehicles have killed good fps games by being too powerful and resulting in squabbling over who on the team will control them. It will be interesting to see if Tactical Intervention finds the right balance.

One addition that really caught my eye was seen in the video (included below) where Counter-Terrorists are abseiling (rappelling) down the side of a building. The scene looked to be out of a movie. This may be an angle they are playing on since I believe the game will also feature “car chase” type scenarios and other situations right off the big screen.

Needless to say, a very promising game but with one question remaining: will there be bunny hopping?
